On 4 hours of sleep with a black coffee in my hand, Caitlyn and I pulled up to Catalina Landing for a fun filled day with the homies on the island. Having gone out the night before, every one else made it just in the nick of time. Except Zaqo Malo, his phone was off and we had to cancel his ticket reservation.
After boarding the boat last, we sheepishly stood around hoping to find 8 open seats right next to each other, instead all the remaining seats that were any good got filled up and we were forced to bottom of the boat to find our place there. For the entirely of the boat ride, Cory was a zombie.
We joked that this was going to be a Weekend at Bernie’s situation for Cory’s own bday that he wouldn’t remember. Instead he perked up as we exited the boat and were off to find our adventure on Catalina Island.

After a quick jaunt in the water, we headed to some bar on the strip with the worst decor available. We downed a bowl of rum punch when Zaqo Malo called to let me know he finally made it to the island in one piece. The wind had picked up considerably since the early morning making the water choppy as hell. Finally, the whole crew had assembled to make the trek to the escape room at the Holiday Inn in Avalon.

We wandered up a hill through a gold course into the back of a hotel to get to the escape room. We showed up 10 minutes late with beers in hand. I can only imagine what the owners thought of our crew. However, as soon as the lights grew dim, everybody got into gamer mode and we almost finished the puzzle. We were told that we got further than most. Pretty good considering that one of our teammates tampered with one of the clues leading us down a dead end until we realized the mistake 10 minutes later.
After the escape room, the boys wanted more time in the water before heading back.
